Ten Days of Awe (Repentance) #roshhashanah

ree

The Ten Days of Awe (also called the Ten Days of Repentance) are the ten days between Rosh Hashanah (the Jewish New Year) and Yom Kippur (the Day of Atonement)

For 2025, it begins September 22 - October 2

What It Is

  • The Ten Days of Awe are a period of serious reflection, repentance, and renewal.

  • Jewish tradition teaches that on Rosh Hashanah, God opens the "Book of Life" and begins to judge each person.

  • During these ten days, people have the chance to repent, seek forgiveness, and return to God before the "final sealing" of the Book of Life on Yom Kippur.

What Happens During This Time

  1. Self-Examination – People reflect on their actions from the past year.

  2. Repentance (Teshuvah) – Turning back to God with sincerity and humility.

  3. Prayer (Tefillah) – Extra prayers are added to services, focusing on forgiveness and God’s mercy.

  4. Good Deeds & Charity (Tzedakah) – Acts of kindness and generosity are emphasized.

  5. Making Amends – It’s not only about asking God for forgiveness but also making things right with people you may have hurt.

Why It’s Called “Days of Awe”

  • It’s a time of awe before God—standing in reverence of His holiness and judgment.

  • There’s both seriousness (because God is evaluating lives) and hope (because His mercy and forgiveness are available).

🕊️ Key Thought

The Ten Days of Awe are not meant to be scary, but transformative—a chance to reset your relationship with God and others, entering the new year with a clean heart.
